Inaugural Podcast - Strictly Legal: Things You Absolutely Need to Know About Canadian Law

I am very pleased to announce that my book, “Strictly Legal: Things You Absolutely Need to Know About Canadian Law” is now available at bookstores across Canada. The book is published by Insomniac Press and is available in a soft paperback version for $11.95 CDN. The book is based on the questions and e-mails that I have received at “Strictly Legal”, the television programme, over the last two years.
“Strictly Legal” airs on BNN (Business News Network, formerly ROBTV) every week on Thursdays at 8:30 p.m. Eastern and 5:30 p.m. Pacific.
In the book, I have pulled together hundreds of interesting aspects of Canadian law in a variety of areas such as family law, Wills, Powers of Attorney and estates, criminal law, business law, contracts, real estate, employment law, intellectual property and other really interesting areas that are of practical use to Canadians. Not only is the information that I have gathered of practical use, it is also kind of fun. You will see what I mean when you review sections like “Marijuana Grow Houses Are Coming to Your Neighbourhood”, or “Golf Course Liability”, or even the section dealing with the crazy litigation that people who win lotteries get into.
As I say in the introduction to the book, “Strictly Legal” is not intended to be a legal encyclopedia. It is intended to be enough law for Canadians to use. It is intended to provide straight answers and information that will help people solve problems and save money. I have done my best to cut out all the legal mumbo jumbo and to demystify Canadian law. This is law you can use to protect yourself, your family, your property, your job and your company.
In many respects, our justice system is no longer accessible to many Canadians. The legal information I provide in “Strictly Legal” is designed to penetrate the wall that is going up around justice. Justice should not be mysterious. It should be understood. Canadians should not fear lawyers, judges and our courts and, in particular, Canadians should not fear financial ruin because they have a legal problem. If they do, then the rule of law and our civil society will erode and that is not good for anyone.

Welcome to my brand new website. So many things have been happening the last two years that I thought it would be fun to bring everything together in one website. I am very pleased to share information and updates, not just about my law practice with Ricketts, Harris in Toronto but also my television program “Strictly Legal” (which is now entering its second season with BNN, Business News Network), the availability of the forthcoming new 4th Edition of my book Surviving Your Divorce, the columns that I am now writing regularly for a variety of magazines and my public speaking schedule for the next several months.
